Course Description
The IICRC-approved Commercial Drying Specialist (CDS) course demonstrates expertise in damage inspection and evaluation, workflow management, process administration, and technical methods of effective and timely drying of commercial, industrial, institutional, and complex residential water-damaged structures, systems, and furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFE). This certification is for the experienced technician, project manager, estimator, or owner/manager who wants to expand their understanding of commercial construction, commercial drying practices, challenges, and opportunities or needs to gain better project management skills. This course will enable the participant to obtain IICRC CDS certification.
IICRC WRT certification is a prerequisite for this course.
The Coach8 CDS course can be conducted onsite or online. The onsite in-person course is held over a 5-day period.
Participants earn 14 IICRC Continuing Education Credits (CECs) for attending this course.
Lunches and snacks are provided by Coach8, except when the course is conducted online.

Examinations and Certification
To receive your certification, you must pass an IICRC examination. If you intend to complete the exam, you must complete a separate exam registration process, which will be provided after registering for the course. Exams for onsite in-person courses are generally held in the classroom after lunch on the final day of the course. Exams for online livestream courses have different arrangements.
Coach8 course registration fees do NOT include IICRC exam registration fees. Exam fees are paid directly to the IICRC separately. The IICRC exam fee for this course is currently $80 USD, but you can check the IICRC website to ensure that fee is still correct.

2024 CDS Class

This certification is for the experienced technician, project manager, estimator, or owner/manager who wants to expand their understanding of commercial construction, commercial drying practices, challenges, and opportunities or needs to gain better project management skills.
This class covers principles of drying, differences between residential and commercial structures, project management, project and technical coordination, negotiation and communication with interested parties, health and safety, re-assessment during the project, safety planning on the job, microbiological considerations, commercial construction practices, climate control, drying complex structures, systems and materials, commercial mechanical systems and air management, equipment options, air flow and control, temporary power generation and distribution hazard control and communication, engineering controls, project management, planning, staging and project set-up, and site considerations. Learn how to inspect, evaluate, manage and dry large losses. This course will enable the participant to obtain IICRC CDS certification.
Ken Larsen
Ken Larsen CR WLS FLS CLS ERS CMP CSDS has been in the restoration industry since 1978. He holds RIA, ACAC and IICRC advanced designations, and was the recipient of the 32nd RIA Martin L. King Award for his many contributions to the restoration industry. Ken has spent 18 years as an independent property restoration contractor, consultant to restorative drying during catastrophes and large loss drying coordination, expert witness, Director of Education for North America’s largest disaster restoration contracting organisation, and is now the author of one of the industry’s leading technical resource book on the subject of structural restorative drying – Leadership in Restorative Drying. He is currently an IICRC-approved instructor of WRT, ASD and CDS certificate courses. Ken is also an RIA instructor of the restoration industry’s advanced certification credentials: Water Loss Specialist (WLS®), Fire Loss Specialist (FLS®), Contents Loss Specialist (CLS®), Environmental Risk Specialist (ERS®), Certified Mould Professional (CMP®) and Certified Restorer (CR®).
